Susanville, the county seat for Lassen County, is located in the northeast corner of California, 85 miles northwest of Reno, Nevada and 110 miles east of Redding, California at the 4,255 foot elevation. The population of Susanville is approximately 18,600. There are two state prisons located outside the city, but within the city limits. Inmate populations are estimated around 8,500. This number is included in the population of the City. Educational opportunities are available locally at Lassen Community College. The University of Nevada at Reno and California State University, Chico are within driving distances. The Lassen National Forest Headquarters and the Regional Bureau of Land Management are located in the City. The City has a fully accredited hospital, a municipal airport and a City-owned and privately-operated golf course. The City enjoys both forested mountains and desert environments which offer a choice of recreational activities, including fishing, hunting, and boating. Susanville is a General Law City operating under a Council-Administrator form of government. Currently, the Susanville Police Department has an authorzed staff level of 20 people. Of these, 18 are sworn peace officer positions. The peace officers include the Chief of Police, Captain, 4 Sergeants, Detective, Narcotics Officer, School Resource Officer, Traffic Officer, and 8 Patrol Officers. The remaining 2 are non-sworn which hold positons as Community Service Officer, and Administrative Assistant.
The Department enjoys active Explorer Scouts, Reserve Officer and a Chaplaincy programs. The Police Department provides police services to the communty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Officers are always on duty. Thank you for visting our website. |
